The Pistachio Factory Review: FAQs

What is pistachio butter's shelf life?

Pistachio butter has a 12-month shelf life if it is not open. It's essential to stir well after opening because the natural pistachio oils will rise to the top over time (like all other natural nut butter). It's preferable if you eat it within 6 to 8 months of opening it.

Storage of pistachio butter: To refrigerate or not?

As long as the lid is properly shut, storing in a cold, dry place (kitchen cupboard or pantry) works best. Refrigeration is entirely up to the consumer's discretion and has no negative impact on the product. If you do opt to refrigerate, the natural oils in pistachios may cause little oil bubbles to form over time. They recommend allowing it to come to room temperature for 5-10 minutes before stirring to create that smooth spreadable consistency.

Is their facility used to process any other nuts or products?

The Pistachio Factory is unlike any other nut company since all of its ingredients are made entirely of pistachios. For their roasted sea salted pistachio butter, the only additional ingredient is sea salt. They only have pistachios in their facilities because they are a pistachio-growing family. As a result, their goods are free of the majority of allergies. For further information, see the Allergy page.

Are their products organic?

Because of the location of their pistachio orchards, pistachios are not certified organic. Unfortunately, they are surround by spraying orchards from conventional farming.

Because the adjacent orchards spray for bugs, the bugs fly in swarms to adjoining farms and can wipe out a major portion of the crop in as little as 24-48 hours. For organic pistachios, buffer zones and important timing precautions are necessary, making their location cost-prohibitive.

Many organic pistachio growers are located in remote areas of the state where organic farming is more viable or have taken precautions prior to planting to assure the crop's safety.

It hope that this will become more practical for use in the future and that they will be able to switch to organic certification. They presently farm in the most environmentally friendly manner possible, spraying only when absolutely necessary. They use a combination of totally organic compounds in many of the chemicals and fertilizers they use, and always choose this route when possible.

The Pistachio Factory Review: Final Thought

Their pistachio butter is a little more expensive because it is made entirely of pistachios with no extra oils or preservatives/fillers. Their pistachios are of the highest quality, and they produce all of their pistachio butter in small amounts. This guarantees the freshest pistachio butter, with most jars being sold within 30 days of production.
